Quesnel & District Hwy. Rescue Society
Quesnel, B.C., Canada
Some of our tools include the Jaws of Life, and Hydraulic cutters, shown in right insert.  Other main tools we use are hydraulic rams, air bags, sawsall and chainsaw winch.
The Quesnel Rescue Society, is a totally volunteer organization, which was established about 15 years ago, to look after the rescue of trapped people in car accidents.  When we started money was raised through different fund raising activities to purchase the needed equipment including a truck. Through the generous support of many local businesses, the City of Quesnel and the Cariboo Regional District, we raised enough money to purchase the truck shown . (Left Insert)  Donations continued including the Jaws of Life, Hydraulic cutters, Chain saw, and first aid supplies.  At that time we had 4 pagers and about 10 members and we answered about 30 calls per year.
GETTING STARTED...
Quesnel Rescue Truck # 1
OVER THE YEARS...
Over the years we have changed and we have grown.  About 6 years ago we managed to raise enough money and donations of material and labour, to build a new rescue building, large enough to hold 2 trucks.  Prior to this time the truck was parked outside, or in a rental location.  We also grew in membership, call volume, and equipment.
NOW...
Today we are still totally volunteer, although we now have 35 members, we answer about 150 calls per year, and we have a lot more equipment.  Two years ago we purchased a new larger, and lighter box for our truck , making it easier to fit the tools, as well as allowing us to set up the inside like an ambulance. (Left Insert)  We are presently in the process of  equipping a second rescue truck, so that we can attend 2 calls at the same time.  We will also be expanding our building in the near future, making room for indoor training and meetings.

This map shows the area, which we respond to.  It covers an area about 40 miles to the north, 40 miles to the south, and as far as roads go to the east and west.  We have one of the largest reponse areas of any rescue unit in the province.

Construction...
Construction started June 6, 2000 on our new meeting and office area.  This addition was made neccesary, as our second rescue truck was completed in December 1999, and the existing office area was converted into a second truck bay.  Again all labour is being donated by our members, and city businesses have been great in donating equipment and supplies.  It is because of this generosity, that Quesnel now has two fully equipped rescue trucks.
